This sub-class involves conducting various types of technical testing and analysis on materials and products to assess their physical and chemical properties, performance, and compliance with safety standards.
Includes
- Acoustics and vibration testing
- Testing of composition and purity of minerals
- Food hygiene testing, including veterinary testing and control related to food production
- Testing of physical characteristics and performance of materials, such as strength, thickness, durability, and radioactivity
- Qualification and reliability testing
- Performance testing of complete machinery, including motors, automobiles, and electronic equipment
- Radiographic testing of welds and joints
- Failure analysis
- Testing and measuring of environmental indicators, such as air and water pollution
- Certification of products, including consumer goods, motor vehicles, aircraft, pressurized containers, and nuclear plants
- Periodic road-safety testing of motor vehicles
- Testing using models or mock-ups, such as aircraft, ships, and dams
- Operation of police laboratories
